At UMC Healthcare Partners’ Center for Digestive Wellness, we provide expert care for a full range of digestive concerns, from common symptoms like heartburn, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain to more complex gastrointestinal conditions.

 Our physicians treat disorders such as IBS, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, acid reflux (GERD), celiac disease, diverticular disease, hemorrhoids, and digestive infections. We also specialize in liver, pancreas, and gallbladder care, including fatty liver disease, hepatitis, cirrhosis, pancreatitis, gallstones, and bile duct disorders.

The center offers a comprehensive range of digestive procedures, including routine colonoscopies, upper endoscopies (EGD), and flexible sigmoidoscopies, to help identify the cause of symptoms and detect diseases early. We also perform advanced procedures like ERCP, which is used to diagnose and treat blockages, stones, or narrowing in the bile ducts or pancreatic ducts.

Preventing and detecting colon cancer early is a major focus of our care. We provide screening colonoscopies as well as alternative, non-invasive screening options for patients who prefer them. Our goal is to make screening comfortable, accessible, and tailored to your needs.

Vinay Patel, MD

Gastroenterologist

Dr. Vinay Patel brings more than 25 years of healthcare experience to UMC Healthcare Partners’ Digestive Wellness Center. He specializes in gastroenterology and hepatology. Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine Subspecialty Board in Gastroenterology. Dr. Patel is dedicated to providing advanced and accessible gastrointestinal care to the community, with a focus on prevention and early detection.

Jesus Guzman, MD

Gastroenterologist

Dr. Jesus Guzman has been providing healthcare to the El Paso community since 2019 and specializes in gastroenterology. An El Paso native, he earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, where he also completed his internal medicine residency, serving as chief resident, and his gastroenterology fellowship, serving as chief fellow. Dr. Guzman is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty board of Gastroenterology. He is passionate about caring for his community and treats his patients like family.
